Hi,

I am just started the evaluation an Rivermuse.

I was wondering if it is possible, in the lifecycle of an alert, to add a free text comment when working/closing the alert in order to describe the resolution of the alert.

Thanks in advance, Pierre.

    Hello Pierre,

Thanks for getting in touch; we're delighted to hear that you are evaluating RiverMuse. I hope that you will let us know exactly what business case(s) and / or scenarios you are using the software for, when you have time.

With regard to your query, we are soon going to be releasing a new version of the RiverMuse Core (at the very end of February) and the functionality that you are asking about is going to be included in that release.

In the Alert Console there is going to be a new interface, under the Events Menu, called Alert Details. One of the things that this interface opens up is the "User Logbook", in which you can associate free text comments with an Alert at any point in its lifecycle.

Here is an example (please click on the screenshot for a larger version):

Of course you will be able to try this functionality out ahead of the Binary release at the end of the month by checking out the code from Subversion, but the usual rules apply about the bleeding edge not being stable.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this and any wider issues; all the best!

      Hi Oliver,

Thanks for your answer. Let me introduce myself and my needs.

We are a young company providing hosted services to mobile operators. We are in the process of entering our application in production for at least 2 operators and I am looking for tools to help us managing the various events ,alarms and errors that may occur on the platform. It is primarily application events as network and system events and handled by one of our partner and he has all the tools in place.

This is a v1.0 of the applications and I want to be sure we don't miss any event which may be related to a bug.

My requirements list is the following:

      • easy of setup and low cost
      • email escalation based on severity and duration of the event
      • event lifecycle: new, assigned, resolved with comments on the resolution
      • ability to disable auto clearing to ensure every single events has been analysed by the support team
      • historization and reporting on the history
      • API to insert custom application events, Python being the preferred language
      • Good interface performances on low bandwidth. Our support team is based in Morocco.

If you allow me to name the competition, I have in my short list Rivermuse (end of the month version) and Zenoss which so far does the job.

We would be interested in speaking to you person in order that we can give you more detailed information about the next version of RiverMuse (as discussed with Oliver) and some other interesting developments that may help you with your current evaluation.

Can I suggest you contact me directly at mark.wilkins@rivermuse.com? We can then organise a conference call at a time to suit you and talk through some of the up-and-coming enhancements to RiverMuse.

We look forward to hearing from you.
